Laspa Center Grants and Awards

The Laspa Center for Leadership distributes grant funding annually to support opportunities that demonstrate leadership in action. All eligible opportunities must clearly align with the mission of the Laspa Center for Leadership and distinguish themselves according to the Center’s core values of leadership, creativity, integrity, and service. Successful proposals will also address one or more of the Center’s leadership competencies: mindfulness, strategic thinking, social skills, empathy, organizational dynamics, and effective management.

These grants and awards are fundamentally intended to promote leadership development through experiential learning.


2020 Community Action Grant

This grant supports the creation of a project that helps a student’s home town community better cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant will cover materials, supplies, and other incidentals necessary for the completion of the project. Learn more.

Award amount: Up to $2,000 based on proposed budget

Deadline: Rolling, until June 30, 2020


We Act Grant

We Act Grants support a self-designed project or an underfunded experience that transforms knowledge, passion, and ideas into action; demonstrates creative and effective problem-solving; and positively impacts the community. Students are encouraged to consider opportunities in causes and industries that can benefit from increased diverse representation. Learn more.

Award amount: Up to $4,000 based on proposed budget

Deadline: March 8


Leadership Development Award

Leadership Development Grants fund training and research opportunities during the academic year that align with the mission of the Center and advance gender equity. Learn more.

Award amount: Up to $500 based on proposed budget

Rolling application. Applications for Spring 2020 will be accepted on a first come, first served basis through April 15.


Service Leadership Award

With a focus on civic engagement, the Service Leadership Award supplements volunteer opportunities or self-designed projects during the academic year that focus on community impact, particularly within the Los Angeles or San Bernardino County. Learn more.

Award amount: Up to $500 based on proposed budget

Rolling application. Applications for Spring 2020 will be accepted on a first come, first served basis through April 15.


Laspa Center Travel Award

The Laspa Center will supplement travel expenses related to an academic or co-curricular experience that aligns with the mission of the Center and has been endorsed by the College through faculty recommendation or offered through departmental programs. Learn more.

Award amount: Up to $300 based on proposed budget

Rolling application. Applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to travel.


All funding is based on availability.  Criteria, eligibility, and applications differ for each award however each proposal must present clear goals, purpose, and intended outcomes. It is the responsibility of the student to determine what (if any) impact grants or awards will have on financial aid packages. All applicants are encouraged to contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information.
