Leadership Development Award

The Leadership Development Award is intended to support student participation in non-academic* programs, conferences, or seminars that foster leadership learning. Eligible opportunities will clearly align with the mission of the Laspa Center, distinguish themselves according to the Center’s values of integrity, service, creativity, and inclusion, and represent an opportunity for growth in one or more of the Laspa Center’s six core leadership competencies: Strategic Thinking, Mindfulness, Organizational Dynamics, Social Skills, Effective Management, and Empathy.

* Visit the Associate Dean of Faculty’s Fellowships and Scholarships page for information about support for academic-related conferences and programs.

Each Leadership Development Award recipient can receive up to $500 in funding to support expenses related to the cost of participation in the qualifying program, conference or seminar. The amount allocated to each student will depend on the budget proposal.

All applications are considered on a rolling basis and must be submitted one month prior to the close of the academic semester.

Eligibility

All currently enrolled undergraduate students who have completed at least one full semester. Priority goes to students with demonstrated need. Students may not receive more than one Leadership Development Award.

Application Requirements

The application includes a series of short-answer questions, a detailed description of the opportunity, and a proposed budget.

Supplemental Materials

Award recipients should be willing to share their experiences with the community and will be asked to submit:

  • A reflection on how this project impacted your leadership development, which is for the Laspa Center only and will not be shared externally (academic tone: 750-1000 words)
  • A shorter narrative description of your experiences with completing the project, which may be shared in whole or part on the College website and/or social media (conversational tone: 500-750 words)
  • At least two images that capture the essence of the project

Recipients may also be asked to share their experience in other ways, including but not limited to poster presentations and information sessions.

Timeline

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., one month prior to the last day of classes. Applications for Spring 2025 are now closed.

For more information visit the Laspa Center or reach out to laspa@scrippscollege.edu.
