FAQ
Yes, all First-Year students are required to live on campus their first year.
Incoming First Year students will receive an email from NSPO at the begining of June with a link to complete the First-Year Housing Application. The housing application deadline is 11:59pm PST on June 20th, 2025. Please note that this email will be sent to the student email of the incoming student, not their personal email.
Please visit the Student Accounts page for more information on housing fees. All Scripps Sponsored Housing are the same fee, regardless of the room, apartment, or house.
Year students typically live in three-person rooms – a ‘triple’. Single rooms and doubles are rarely given to first year students.
If you need a housing accommodation due to a documented disability, please get in touch with Academic Resources and Services (ARS) to complete an AIM Profile and upload your documentation.
Each student will have the following in their rooms:
- Bed Frame
- Mattress (twin extra-long)
- Two drawer dresser
- Desk
- Floor lamp
- Closet or armoire
Students cannot bring in their own bed or mattress. Students are provided a bed frame and mattress that meets the requirements of the state. If a student needs to make a change to what is provided due to a health concern, they must reach out to Academic Resources and Services and request a housing accommodation.
First-Year students will be matched with a roommate(s) based on their Roommate Questionnaire through the Housing Application. Students will be able to see their roommates in the housing portal early to mid-July.
There is a housing freeze for all students once they arrive to campus where room change requests are not allowed.
Requests may not be made prior to the academic year or upon arrival, and the Room Change Request Form will be active starting on September 15th, 2025. Students will be able to fill out a Room Change Request Form on their Housing Portal, and adjustments are made based on availability and not guaranteed.
All rooms are unique and have varying sizes and dimensions. We suggest that students bring a tape measurer to assist them with taking measurements upon arrival and refrain from buying or bringing anything that needs a specific amount of space. For room layouts, students can download the floor plans in the housing portal for an idea of what the space will look like.
Students over the age of 21 are allowed to have alcohol in their spaces and are expected to follow the guidelines outlined in the Guide to Student life regarding alcohol usage.
Scripps does not offer storage over the summer break. Students will have to arrange their own means of storage by either taking their items to a nearby storage facility or arrange for a storage pod to be delivered to Campus. A quick google search can assist students in finding a Storage vendor that works them.
- Storage pods can only stay for a maximum of 48 hours on campus.
- Pods can only be placed on Platt Ave in a Scripps parking space and cannot block street traffic.
- Pods placed in unauthorized locations will be removed and any incurred charges will be billed to the student.
Scripps does not offer summer housing over the Summer Break.
Scripps does not offer winter housing over the Winter Break.
Scripps Sponsored Housing does not close during Spring Break. Students can opt to stay on campus during Spring Break.
Students may waive out of SHIP with proof of coverage through an insurance plan that meets The Claremont Colleges’ waiver criteria. For more information about the waiver process, please review the Student Insurance information.
Note that the mandatory SHIP requirement remains in place for international students within the United States and enrolled at Scripps College. International students are not eligible to waive SHIP.
Students may make a meal plan change request by submitting a request via the Meal Plan Change form which is available the first two weeks of classes. The form will be available on the housing portal. Students who live on-campus are required to have a 12,14, 16 or 19 meal plan. Information about meal plan packages can be found on the Student Accounts site.
