Latest News: Reunion Weekend 2021
We wanted to provide you with an update regarding key developments on campus and our plans for Reunion Weekend 2021. As many of you know, Reunion Weekend 2020 was cancelled this past May to preserve the health and safety of our community in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. We want you to know that we are committed to honoring you and your class this year, regardless of whether we are able to safely gather in person.
Given the ongoing uncertainty around the spread of the virus, and local and state restrictions on large gatherings, at this time it is difficult to predict what form Reunion Weekend 2021 will take. However, the dates for Reunion Weekend 2021 remain Friday, April 30—Sunday, May 2, 2021. This will be a combined celebration of classes ending in 0s and 5s as well as 1s and 6s. Here are the potential forms Reunion will take:
- Reunion celebration on campus. It was our original plan, and remains our ongoing hope, to be able to celebrate together on campus. If conditions improve over the next few months, and our students are able to return to campus in the spring, we will hold the combined Reunion Weekend 2021 on campus. This will take place Friday, April 30—Sunday, May 2, 2021, with early arrival on Thursday, April 29 for the 50th reunion classes of 1970 and 1971.
- Virtual Reunion. Alternatively, recognizing the potential health and safety concerns of an in-person gathering, we are also exploring options for virtual programming during these dates. This would include larger signature events, as well as opportunities for smaller groups to connect in meaningful ways.
- Combined in-person and virtual Reunion. The third possibility is a hybrid of in-person and virtual options, enabling those who feel safe to gather in person or travel to campus, with additional programs and opportunities for our alum community to connect online.
What we can say with certainty is that Reunion Weekend 2021 will take place during dates stated above, and we hope you will plan to participate, no matter what form it takes!
Scripps will continue to monitor COVID-19 and its impact on our programs, and we will update you when a decision has been made. In the meantime, we invite you to participate in one of our upcoming virtual engagement programs, or on our new online network, Olive Grove. Thank you for your continued support of your fellow alums and of the College. We wish you and your loved ones good health in these difficult times.
