Jess Butler ’09 Promoted to Serve as Scripps’ Director of Alumnae Engagement

Jess Butler '09Binti Harvey, vice president for External Relations and Institutional Advancement at Scripps College, recently announced the appointment of Jess Butler ’09 as the new director of alumnae engagement. In this role, Butler will connect more than 9,000 Scripps alumnae through innovative outreach, communications, programming, and fundraising.

Butler most recently served as the assistant director of alumnae engagement at Scripps since 2016, managing communications and signature events, including Reunion Weekend, Camp Scripps, and the Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence program.

Butler is eager to expand opportunities for alumnae. “We can continue to look at ways to develop affinity programming and create shared-interest and industry-based engagement,” she says. “I’m looking forward to working with other alums to redefine what it means to be engaged with our alma mater!”

A history major at Scripps, Butler went on to earn an MA in higher education and in history from Boston College, where she taught courses in European History. During her seven years in Boston, Butler also held advancement and events management positions. Since her return to Scripps, Butler has enjoyed spending time in Denison Library, Toll Hall, the Motley—some of her favorite spots as a student.

“I am excited about the ways Jess will leverage her own experiences as a dedicated and involved Scripps alumna along with her prior professional experiences to inform and enhance our programming, galvanize our network, and continue to strengthen Scripps’ global community,” says Harvey.

Butler has quickly introduced her toddler and two fur babies to the Scripps campus and community and invites you to find your own ways to stay connected. For more information on alumnae news and events, visit our website!
