WELCOME CLASS OF 2029 AND TRANSFER FAMILIES!
We know that this is a time of great anticipation for our incoming parents and their students! Soon enough, your student will be moving into Scripps to officially start their first year. Here is some basic information to help with your planning and in supporting your student as they prepare for their arrival on campus:
- Our Office provides families with helpful information and engagement opportunities throughout their student’s time at Scripps—and beyond. As a Scripps College parent, you will now receive our monthly e-newsletter, The Family Connection, in addition to email invitations and key College communications. If you are a current parent and you are not receiving our email communications (beginning approximately the second week of June for incoming parents and families), please reach out to the Office of Parent Engagement to confirm we have your current and preferred contact information.
- Move-In Day is scheduled for Tuesday, August 19. Parents and families should note that in addition to helping your student move in to their space, we will also hold a Resource Fair, Family Photo Booth, Letter Writing to your student, and a Farewell Reception. Following the Farewell Reception on the afternoon of August 19, parents and families should plan to depart campus, as their students will thereafter be focused on orientation programming and community-building activities in the days leading into the start of classes. If you are coming to campus from out of the area, we recommend you book your travel and accommodations soon, as Claremont is very busy during new student orientation.
- As additional details are confirmed about move-in and pre-orientation opportunities, you can find the latest information on the New Student Programming and Orientation (NSPO) webpage.
- Encourage your student to regularly check their Scripps College email! Incoming students will be receiving multiple communications from multiple Scripps offices every week. It is critical that they check their Scripps email throughout the summer.
- Over the summer, the Office of Parent Engagement holds a series of in-person Summer Welcome Receptions across the country for incoming parents and families an their students. Invitations to attend will be sent via email but you can refer to the full schedule and most recent updates on our webpage. Additionally, parents and families of incoming students are invited to attend our virtual series Scripps 101 to get to know key offices on campus – including the Office of Parent Engagement – and ask your questions in preparation for your student starting at Scripps!
Important Dates and Deadlines*
Your student should regularly visit the NSPO webpages on upcoming dates and deadlines here. The Office of Parent Engagement will share key deadlines via email in our Family Connection e-newsletters throughout the summer, but we have also included below some important dates parents and families should keep in mind as we approach the fall semester:
- May 31: Your student should have received their credential letter from our IT department, sharing the steps to set up their official Scripps email account.
- June 13: If you students is seeking a housing accommodation due to health conditions, they should get in contact with Academic Resources and Services (ARS). In order for the Residential Life Office to place your student based off of a housing accommodation, ARS needs to approve your student’s request for the accommodation, and the office will need a housing application from your student on file. Students can fill out the Housing Accommodation form via the AIM Portal. Deadline to submit a housing accommodation application is June 13 by 11:59 pm PT.
- June 20: Your student needs to fill out their Housing Application by June 20 at 11:59 pm PT. Incoming students received an email from NSPO in early June, with the link to the housing portal where the application can be found and filled out. The Housing Application is available via the Housing Portal. Your student can find more information about the Housing Application process by clicking here.
- June 20: Tuition payment deadline. More information on the tuition payment schedule can be found here.
- July 1: Scripps deadline for your student to submit their Immunization Records and Entrance Health forms. The Student Health Services deadline is July 15, but we encourage our students to submit their records by July 1.
- Each student must upload a completed entrance physical and immunization record obtained from their home doctor, prior school, or military to the Online Health Portal (Please note that the portal uses their new Scripps Student credentials). Each student must complete a series of Online Health Forms, including a TB screening form, accessed through the Health Service student portal.
- End July: Housing Room placements will be available for students to see starting late July. They can check the housing portal to see placements.
- September 12: Deadline to waive Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Health insurance is required for all continuing and newly matriculated students. All students are automatically enrolled annually in the Claremont Colleges Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students may waive out with proof of coverage in an insurance plan that meets the Claremont Colleges waiver criteria. More information can be found here.
