National Student Surveys

Since 2018 Scripps College has participated in the suite of Higher Education Research Institute (HERI), housed at UCLA. HERI administers the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), a national longitudinal study of the American higher education system, and the nation’s largest and oldest empirical study of higher education.

Through HERI, each year Scripps College surveys incoming first-year students using The Freshman Survey (TFS), as well as checking in after students’ first year with the Your First College Year (YFCY) survey, and in their fourth year as students transition to post-Scripps life with the College Senior Survey (CSS). Visit HERI’s website to see questions asked in the survey instruments.

Before 2018 Scripps College participated in the Beginning College Survey of Student Engagement (BCSSE), sent to incoming students, and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), sent to first years and seniors.

Scripps College is a member of the Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium (HEDS), participating in two member surveys, the annual Alumnae Survey, and the tri-yearly Sexual Assault Campus Climate Survey.

In October 2021, in partnership with the Liberal Arts College Racial Equity Alliance (LACRELA), Scripps launched the student component of the National Assessment of Collegiate Campus Climates (NACCC). The NACCC is administered through the University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center and here is an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) Initiative newsletter that gives more info.
