Friday, April 28, 2023

  • Check-in for alums and guests at Seal Court. On-site registration will be available. 

1:00 PM — 2:00 PM | Dr. Amanda Ryan-Fear ’98 on The 3 Steps to Overcoming Overwhelm | Humanities Auditorium 

  • Feminist Leadership and Mindset Coach Dr. Amanda Ryan-Fear ’98 presents on the 3 simple concepts you need to manage overwhelm including tools you can start using immediately to bring more time, ease, and flow into your life.

1:00 PM — 3:00 PM | Student Fellowship Presentations | Vita Nova 100

  • Join the Laspa Center for Leadership as it celebrates the conclusion of its yearlong Fellowship. Eighteen students representing diverse class years, majors and interests will hold a mock “pitch meeting” and present their visions for positive, transformational change at Scripps College. Presentations begin at 1:00 pm with reception immediately following

2:00 PM — 3:00 PM | Celebration of Generosity Tea | Margaret Fowler Garden

  • A special gathering to honor donors and volunteers. 

3:00 PM — 5:00 PM | Scripps Hues: A Wine and Paint Afternoon | Jaqua West

  • This wine and painting activity begins with good conversation and ends with a bespoke painting of an iconic Scripps location you can take back home. Additional fee; space is limited. 

5:00 PM — 6:30 PM | 3C Wine Tasting with Harvey Mudd College and Pitzer College | Elm Tree Lawn

  • Enjoy this annual sampling of wines specially selected by HMC, Pitzer, and Scripps. 

5:00 PM — 9:00 PM | The Senior Art Exhibition/Reception | Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery  

  • An annual exhibition of final thesis projects created by graduating studio art majors, the Senior Art Show is the culmination of the studio art major at Scripps. In addition to producing the works displayed, seniors conceptualize the show, install their pieces, write artist statements, and design publicity for the exhibition.

6:30 PM — 9:00 PM | Reunion Festival Dinner and Performance by Gavin Turek ’09 | Jaqua East (Dinner) and Bowling Green (Concert)

  • Join fellow alums for an outdoor food truck dinner, drinks, and a special live music performance by Gavin Turek ’09! 
  • Los Angeles native Gavin Turek is known for her incredible voice, dance and acting skills, and as a spokesperson for the world-renowned makeup brand Rimmel London. She has been singing since she was a child, writing her first song at age six. Turek’s music seamlessly blends retro funk and dreamy, modern pop. Her debut album, Madame Gold, produced by Childish Gambino collaborator Chris Hartz, dropped summer 2021 on Madame Gold Records. Turek tells the story “of a woman in flux, vulnerable and full of fear who found the courage to get back up and fight, ultimately saving herself.”

9:30 AM — 10:30 AM | Suzanne Ely Muchnic ’62 on Scripps’ Centennial (Hybrid) | Humanities Auditorium 

  • Renowned author and art critic Suzanne Ely Muchnic ’62 shares an update of her Scripps history project, including alumnae stories and quotations through the ages of the College. 

11:00 AM — 12:00 PM | Leadership Forum | Balch Auditorium

  • A distinguished panel will engage in a bold and thought-provoking conversation about the evolving definition of leaders and their role in shaping the future for individuals, institutions, and society. In a conversation moderated by Lisette Nieves, an academic, non-profit leader, and public official, Barbara Arnwine ’73, a renowned civil rights attorney and advocate, Szeyin Lee ’15, a software designer and engineer dedicated to social impact, and Megan Sirras ’08, brand strategist and marketing leader, will explore critical opportunities and challenges facing the next generation of leaders.

1:00 PM — 2:00 PM | Denison Library Open House and Rare Materials Viewing (5th—45th classes only) 

  • Drop in to view and discuss the remarkable range of materials at Denison Library, including rare books, photographs, correspondence, and the Scripps College Archives. 

2:00 PM — 3:30 PM | Reunion Convocation & Alumnae Awards Ceremony (Hybrid) | Balch Auditorium

  • Hear from this year’s distinguished awardees: Distinguished Alumna Ellen Rosenblum ’72, Outstanding Recent Alumna Carolann Jane Duro ’20, Volunteer of the Year Szeyin Lee ’15, and Commitment to Community MaríaElena De La Garza ’87. 

3:30 PM — 5:00 PM | Class Gathering and Class Photos | Sycamore Courtyard

  • A time just for you and your classmates: strike a pose for your official class photo! Class photos will be taken at the Wood Steps from 4:30—5:00 pm and are for the Classes of 2018, 2013, 2008, 2003, 1998, 1993, 1988, 1983, and 1978.

9:00 AM — 11:30 AM | Williamson Gallery Open House: Photographs and Japanese Prints Collection 

  • Drop in to view and discuss the history and significance of Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery’s rich collection of photographs and Japanese prints. The college has acquired more than 2,500 19th and 20th century photographs including works by Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Julia Margaret Cameron, Danny Lyons, Edward Weston, and many more. The Japanese collection numbers approximately 3,000 woodcut prints that span over 250 years. These two collections are used throughout the year by our faculty and students and often results in student-curated exhibitions that are featured in the Clark Museum. 

9:00 AM — 11:00 AM | Clark Humanities Museum Open House: Berthe Morisot and the Reclamation of the Domestic 

  • Come by to visit a French, feminist art history exhibition and see prints of some of the francophone world’s most famous artists. The etchings by Forain, Bracquemond, and Cassatt are authentic, and the color plates are a part of the Denison Library’s rare book collection from 1935. 
  • This exhibition is an extension of Scripps senior Hannah Lebow ’23’s thesis in French studies, completed in collaboration with Scripps’ French professor Dr. Julin Everett.
  • This exhibition runs from April 17th until May 5th, 2023.

9:30 AM — 10:30 AM | Botanical Campus Tour | Honnold Gate

  • Enjoy an in-depth walking tour of the historical significance and botanical beauty of the Scripps campus led by Landscape Operations Manager, Joya Salas. Space is limited. 

10:30 AM — 12:00 PM | Mariachi Brunch | Jaqua East

  • Enjoy a goodbye meal featuring a local women’s mariachi band. Make plans to keep in touch with old and new friends as the weekend comes to an end.

  • 5CFC is a student-led space at the Claremont Colleges for street and freestyle dancers of any background to engage & grow with each other. All alumni and current students are welcome at this event, even if you have no experience in freestyle dance! Entry is free and no RSVP required.
