Speaking in Tongues

– Out of Print –

In order to make use of new types available on the computer (and accents and foreign alphabets we did not have in metal), the students were asked to write a story about a secret in either English or in a foreign language, and translate it (or get it translated) into the other language. The foreign language would be created on the computer, the English would be hand-set in metal, and both would be printed letterpress. Imagery was done on linoleum blocks and in relief etchings. There are 64 pages printed on three colors of Ingres Antique. The size is 8.625″ x 8.375″. The book is bound in green cloth over boards with an exposed spine. There is a green paper wrapper around the binding with the image of a gargoyle on the cover. Centaur and Arrighi were used for the front and back matter. There are 50 copies in the edition. This book was printed in our new expansive Press room in the Milliard Sheets Art Building.
