Important Updates

  • Academic advising summer Zoom sessions
    Meet with Scripps faculty, staff, and administrators prior to class registration for information about AP/IB credit, placement exams, the Scripps curriculum, and more.
  • Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Studies
    All first-year students are preregistered for a section of Core A, the first course of Scripps’ interdisciplinary program that spans two semesters.
  • June 22: Core A survey
    Complete this survey to learn more about the Core courses offered and let us know which interest you. All first-year students read Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by Angela Duckworth over the summer and discuss in their Core class.
  • July 10: Core A survey due
  • July 15: Deadline to complete Chemistry 29 placement exam
  • July 15: Deadline to complete online foreign language placement exam
  • August 6-7: Register for fall classes

ACADEMICS: WHAT TO KNOW

Course Registration

  • Course registration takes place August 6-7, and a normal course load  is 4.0 courses per semester.
  • You’ll be placed in a section of Core A based on a New Student Information Survey that will be available in early summer.
  • After meeting with your academic advisor during orientation, you will have an opportunity to make changes to your schedule.

Academic Advising

  • General advising and info sessions will be held throughout the summer.
  • Each student is assigned a First Year Advisor; you’ll meet them during orientation to finalize your fall schedule
  • Orientation includes an Academic Open House to meet faculty and learn more about majors and minors.

Placement Exams

  • Math: Math placement exam is offered in person during orientation.
  • Chemistry: Chemistry placement exam is offered online over the summer.
  • Languages: Language placement exams are offered online over the summer. Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese, Korean, and Ancient Greek.

Music and Science

  • Music lessons and auditions will be available June 1.
  • A science advising guide will be available June 1.
