Laspa Center for Leadership: We Act Action and Research Grants 2017 Recipients Announced

The Laspa Center for Leadership at Scripps College has awarded five We Act Action and Research Grants for 2017. Each student recipient will execute a yearlong, self-designed project to “transform knowledge, passion, and ideas into action, demonstrate creative and effective problem-solving, create partnerships in the public or private sector, and produce outcomes that make a positive impact.”

The 5C Experience: The Claremont Tamasha CLORG

A crowd of more than 400 from The Claremont Colleges (5C) community turned out for an evening of South Asian dance, music, and cultural appreciation at Sanskriti 2017. Now in its fifth year, Sanskriti is one of the largest 5C student-run performances, attracting both participants and audiences. This year’s Sanskriti, held on April 7, 2017, featured over 150 dancers from all 5Cs.

Our group of 10 students drove six hours from Claremont to San Francisco to reach our beautiful Airbnb, a Victorian penthouse apartment located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. Many of us, being Southern Californians, felt glad to be on the trip because we finally got to see the famous city.

Julia Thomas ’17, a history major and environmental analysis minor from Bainbridge Island, Washington, will be spending her first year post-graduation doing independent research as Thomas J. Last month, 10 Scripps students took a break from classes to explore policy, government, and nonprofit careers during their spring break. From March 13 to 16, Scripps College’s Career Planning & Resources (CP&R) team led its fifth Networking Trek in three years with a visit to Washington, D.C. Students got the chance to meet with representatives from seven area organizations.
