Volunteer of the Year
Scripps College recognizes and appreciates the importance of the ongoing commitment, dedication, and leadership of its alumnae. The Volunteer of the Year award recognizes an alumna for her commitment, dedication, leadership, and exceptional volunteer service on behalf of Scripps College. This award will be given at Convocation during Reunion Weekend.
Latest Recipient: Marga Rose Hancock '69
Marga Rose Hancock ’69, born in Concord CA, grew up in Houston in a house previously inhabited by Molly Ivins ’66 and later by Katherine Harper ’01. An English major at Scripps, she migrated post-grad to Mill Valley and onward to Seattle. She met and married Professor John Hancock while working and pursuing graduate studies at the University of Washington; John died in 2008.
Following a productive career as a non-profit executive (Allied Arts of Seattle 1977-78, Seattle Psychoanalytic Institute 1977-85, The American Institute of Architects Seattle 1985-2007), Marga now develops/writes/edits/publishes biographical and historical studies. Her community-building endeavors include WilDLife/Women Design Leaders in Seattle, Camp Scripps originating team member 1989-99, Scripps Alumnae Regional Associate WeWA 2009- , and Scripps Class of ’69 Reunion Committee Chair 2009 and 2014.
