The Nucleus is a $70 million facility expansion that will help meet enrollment trends and strengthen our position as a leader in education and advancement in STEM fields.

This construction initiative also addresses the need for additional faculty and the expansion of classes and co-curricular offerings to meet student demand and increase the Colleges’ capacity for cutting-edge, grant-funded research. Enriched by the Colleges’ interdisciplinary approach to STEM, deep study of the humanities, and a faculty of distinguished scientists, Scripps and Pitzer are poised to advance the next generation of students eager to begin lives of scientific distinction and discovery within the walls of the new facility.

The new building will provide:

  • Multiple teaching laboratories and preparatory spaces for study in biology, physics, chemistry, environmental science, and interdisciplinary courses
  • Student-faculty collaboration spaces, including meeting rooms, student lounges, study niches, and a computer room
  • Outdoor courtyards and plazas
  • New office spaces for faculty and laboratory coordinators
  • A rooftop greenhouse
