In Inside Higher Ed, President Lara Tiedens explained the rationale behind Scripps’ recent decision to move ahead with online-only instruction for the fall 2020 semester. The decision was announced as the number of COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County continued to rise sharply. “We need to be socially responsible players in this world,” she said. “And that means understanding what the nature of the public health crisis is and what responsible behavior is in that context.” She added that the fall semester’s virtual instruction will be different than it was in the spring, as faculty members who taught online summer classes have had opportunities to enhance virtual teaching methods.
