This Little Piggy Came Back to Scripps

Each year, Scripps seniors participate in a tradition marking the beginning of their philanthropic support of the College. In addition to raising money, the senior classes of Scripps, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Pomona Colleges engage in a good-natured competition to achieve the highest participation rate. The school with the highest rate of giving is awarded a trophy, a small ceramic pig named Ellen.

Kathleen Brogan Schwarz ’64 Comes to Campus as Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence

Kathleen Brogan Schwarz, M.D. ’64, a leading pediatric gastroenterologist, returned to Scripps in February as the Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence (LLAiR). During her week at Scripps, she counseled individual premed students on their future careers and addressed a Women in Science luncheon crowd at the Malott Commons, among other activities.

Scripps College Summer Academy

On June 12, thirty-four highly motivated young women moved into Eleanor Joy Toll Hall to participate in an academically intensive two-week residential program. The women, who attend public and parochial high schools from the greater Los Angeles and Inland Empire area, are participating in the Scripps College Summer Academy, now in its third year. Throughout their two weeks at the Summer Academy, participants experience living and studying in a private, liberal arts college. The program helps high potential, under-represented students succeed in high school and prepare for entrance into college.
