Scripps Dances into Spring 2007

“Scripps Dances,” the annual spring concert of the Scripps College Department of Dance, will take place on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at 8 p.m. in Garrison Theater.

An opportunity for students, faculty, and guest artists to debut original choreography and performance work, “Scripps Dances” is a highlight of the department’s spring event calendar. This year’s concert brings the work of eight students to the stage and includes the culmination of four senior projects. A variety of dance forms are represented including modern, contemporary ballet, and West African. Student choreographers include Scripps seniors Sara Gaynor, Mary Grimes, Meredith Horiuchi, and Abigail Stopper, Brianna Skellie (Scripps ’08), Sydney Freggiaro (Scripps ’09), Meg Mason (HMC ’08), and Kathleen Paganelli (CMC ’07).

Faculty member Phylise Smith has choreographed a West African piece with live accompaniment, and guest choreographer Hassan Christopher has created a quartet that is highly athletic and physically challenging.

Tickets will be available at the Garrison Theater Box Office beginning at 5 p.m. before each performance; general admission is $10; $5 for seniors and for students, faculty, and staff of The Claremont Colleges. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. For more information, please contact the Scripps College Department of Dance at (909) 607-2934.
