Gabby Giffords ’93 discussed the progress that the gun safety movement has made over the past decade in an op-ed for TIME magazine. Since surviving an assassination attempt in 2011, Giffords has become a prominent advocate for gun control through her nonprofit. “Move ahead. We can’t rewrite the past with our wishing or our wanting,” she writes. “But the future? Now, that’s something we can play a role in shaping.”

Giffords recently received the Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden, and a documentary about her life and work, Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down, will premiere later this month.
