The New York Times Features Alison Saar ’78’s Statue at the Obama Presidential Center

Multimedia artist and sculptor Alison Saar ’78 has debuted a new sculpture that is on display at the Obama Presidential Center, which opened this year on Juneteenth. Inspired by theStatue of Liberty, Saar’s Torch Song is a bronze depiction of a woman holding a flame, her mouth open as if in the midst of a song, and wrapped in piano keys like armor. She stands in the center of the Women’s Garden.

The New York Times recently wrote about the 30 artists that were commissioned by Barack and Michelle Obama for the center and highlighted Saar’s contribution. Read the article here.
