Scripps Presents: Fall 2016 Season
This fall, Scripps College’s public events program will feature a series of lively discussions with some of today’s most compelling figures on topics at the heart of America’s public discourse this presidential election year. The fall 2016 Scripps Presents season will feature personalities such as former MSNBC host and race and social justice professor/speaker/author Melissa Harris-Perry; restaurateur, chef, and writer/TV star Eddie Huang, whose book, Fresh Off The Boat, inspired the TV sitcom by the same name; artist and provocateur Molly Crabapple; and hip hop journalist Jeff Chang.

What can humans learn from zebrafish? According to Amanda Maheras ’17, apparently quite a lot. As Maheras explains, “Zebrafish brains have the capacity to regenerate, so we can utilize zebrafish as a model organism to better understand brain regeneration and repair. This not only provides insight into human concussions, but also other neurological disorders.”

Class of 2016: Fulbright Recipients Delighted to Teach Abroad
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program has awarded grants for five Scripps College students to participate in English Teaching Assistant Programs abroad in the coming year, two in Malaysia and one each in Mexico, Germany, and Mongolia. “Fulbrighters” Grace Dahlstrom ’16, Aishwarya Subramanian ’16, Xitlaly Sanchez ’16, Halay Wilhelm ’16, and Zoe Dilles ’16 will meet, work, live with, and learn from the people of their respective host countries, interacting on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks.

Class of 2016: Scripps College Graffiti Wall: Seniors Make Their Marks
Since 1931, Scripps’ graduating seniors have participated in what has become an essential rite of passage at the College: the signing of Graffiti Wall. Each year, seniors choose a mural design from student-submitted illustrations to paint on the wall, and then the entire graduating class adds their signatures. The Graffiti Wall is a visual reminder of Scripps’ history and reflects the changing tastes and interests of students over the decades.
