Return to Campus Update

  • Campus News

Dear Scripps College Students,

As we look forward to resuming in-person instruction and residential programs in the fall, we are encouraged by reports of declining COVID-19 case counts, the increased availability of vaccines, and a gradual relaxation of public health restrictions. Recently, the state of California announced that all those 16 and older are likely to have access to COVID-19 vaccines beginning on April 15.  This is excellent news and will help limit the spread of the virus when campuses reopen.  The College encourages everyone to get vaccinated when they become eligible.

Based on this positive outlook, the College is moving forward with our plans for in-person instruction and campus life for the 2021-22 academic year. We expect that there will be some ongoing COVID-19 mitigation measures, but we are eagerly anticipating a campus experience that resumes the aspects of academic and residential life we hold most dear. Classes will take place in person to the greatest extent possible, we will offer College housing configured as singles and doubles, and students will have diverse meal plan options and access to our modified dining hall.

Later this month, students and families will receive information and key dates regarding housing and dining, as well as important updates on orientation and other information for new and international students. We encourage all students to closely monitor email and visit the Scripps Strong website for timely updates about all aspects of the fall semester, including classroom instruction, residential options, safety protocols, and community expectations over the next several months.

Scripps has regularly sought insight from our students about potential academic, residential, and campus life scenarios as we have prepared our plans to create a safe, healthy environment for living, learning, and working at Scripps throughout the next academic year. As always, we understand that circumstances will continue to evolve and views may change over time as more information becomes available from LA County. However, we have benefitted from previous community input and we will continue to utilize survey responses to inform our planning and decision-making. Please use this link to complete the latest student survey by April 15.

We remain encouraged and inspired by your resilience, strength, and commitment to community throughout this unprecedented academic year, and we are grateful for all that you have done to preserve, protect, and improve the Scripps College experience in spite of the challenges you have overcome. We are excited to welcome students, faculty, and staff to campus this fall and we wish you continued success as we approach the end of the current semester.

Sincerely,

Lara Tiedens

President
