The Motley

Founded in 1974, The Motley is a nonprofit business that has served as a vibrant and welcoming space for the Scripps community⎯and beyond⎯to gather, study, socialize, and attend events. The Motley employs approximately 60 baristas and managers each semester.

“To connect The Claremont Colleges with local and global communities by perpetuating sustainable supply chains, to be a socially responsible business that explores diverse feminist critiques, and to foster independent thinking and purposeful change.”

The Student Store

Located across from The Motley Coffeehouse, The Student Store is a nonprofit business that brings unique and creative merchandise options to the Scripps community to instill a sense of school pride and unity. The store employs approximately 20 Scripps students each semester who manage sales and participate in design, sourcing, and merchandise ordering.

Scripps Store Mission Statement: The Scripps Store aims to reflect the diversity of Scripps College by offering a variety of accessible merchandise that represents the community’s values and identities. As a student-run business within the Claremont Consortium, we strive to maintain a positive and inclusive presence on campus. We are committed to treating all community members with respect and sincerity, while creating a space that celebrates the independence, creativity, and individuality of Scripps students.
