Information for Parents and Families

Whether your student is new to Scripps or graduating soon, it’s important that you and your student have a clear understanding of the costs of going to college and what resources are available to assist you while your student is attending Scripps College. We’re here to help.

The following information is meant to support you as you support your student through their educational journey.

Applying for Aid

We outline the process for applying for financial aid at Scripps College for prospective and current students, and international and post-baccalaureate students.

Keeping Your Information Secure

To ensure your data privacy, the Office of Financial Aid discourages students and parents from submitting and documents with Personally Identifiable Information(PII) via fax or email. PII is information that can be used to trace your identity like your social security number and date of birth.  Instead, all students and parents should submit all required documents to the College Board’s IDOC Document Imaging Service. The IDOC service is a secure online service which will accept your documents from you and transfer images to the college securely.

Types of Financial Aid

Financial aid at Scripps is likely to be awarded in a combination of grants, scholarships, employment, and loans. Detailed information is provided to explain each award your student may receive.

How Financial Aid is Determined

Scripps College Office of Financial Aid determines the family contribution by carefully reviewing each family’s financial aid applications, and parent and student tax returns and supporting documentation.

Student Accounts (Billing)

Information about Scripps College’s billing process, including methods of payment, due dates, and prepayment plans are available here.

Common FAFSA issues

The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators provides information and tips about the FAFSA application.

Tuition Refund Insurance

Detailed information about the available added protection of GradGuard Tuition refund insurance.

Accessing the My Financial Aid Portal

The My Financial Aid portal is designed to allow students to access important information about the financial aid application status, awards, and disbursements.  At this time, parents are not able to access the My Financial Aid portal on their own.  Instead, students should access the portal and share their information with their parents as they see fit.
