Scripps Magazine Spring 2026: President’s Vision

Every year, I look forward to springtime at Scripps. It provides a much-needed awakening, renewal, and the reward of extensive hours of learning, exploration, and collaboration that make our community so exceptional.

This moment also offers a chance to reflect on and celebrate our triumphs—many of which you will read about in this issue.

On May 1, the College launched our Centennial Celebration at Reunion Weekend with a festive block party. While we regret that we were unable to host the Ellen Browning Scripps medal ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances, we look forward rescheduling in the near future.

Our Board of Trustees Chair Laura Hockett ’85 also announced Scripps Forward, the Centennial Campaign.

Like the arrival of each new season, these occasions invite us to pause in gratitude for all that Scripps has achieved in its first 100 years and to anticipate with enthusiasm what it will accomplish in the next century.

Our centennial moment is now. As we move through the 2026-27 year, I urge you to connect with those in the Scripps community who have touched your life and consider how you can advance that impact. I look forward to experiencing this momentous and celebratory milestone in the life of the College with you.

With deep appreciation,

Amy Marcus-Newhall
President of Scripps College
