Message from President Larissa Z. Tiedens

  • Community Messages

Dear Scripps College Students, Faculty, and Staff,

I hope you are enjoying the final days of summer and have found time over these past few months for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. As I begin my tenure as the ninth president of Scripps College, I would like to share my gratitude for your warm welcome as well as my excitement about becoming a member of this remarkable community.

I join the College as it begins a yearlong celebration of its 90th anniversary, and I am pleased to participate in continuing its legacy of providing an extraordinary educational experience to generations of women leaders. I am thrilled to return to my academic roots and my passion for liberal arts education, and to do so as part of a community of distinguished teacher-scholars, top-ranked students, high-performing staff, accomplished alumnae, and engaged families. It is my honor and privilege to contribute to the transformative educational experience that Scripps offers to students, The Claremont Colleges, and the academic community at large. The College’s future is bright, and together, we are poised to enhance its solid foundation of intellectual rigor, inclusive excellence, and financial strength.

I look forward to immersing myself in the Scripps experience over the next several months, and I will share my initial observations, ideas, and plans with the community as the year unfolds. I eagerly anticipate meeting as many of you as possible during the first weeks of the semester, so please plan to introduce yourself at the various community events scheduled this fall. Your views of the priorities, challenges, and opportunities facing the College are immensely valuable to me as we collaboratively envision Scripps’ future.

I’m grateful for the generosity many have extended—your telephone calls, notes, advice, and gifts have already made me and my family feel welcome, and I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful place to call home.

Sincerely,

Larissa Z. Tiedens
President
