President Tiedens’ Key Accomplishments

Scripps has flourished under President Tiedens’ leadership and benefitted from her aptitude for building and strengthening institutions. She leaves Scripps in an enviable position with an inspiring vision for the future; exponential growth and investment in fast-growing STEM educational programs and infrastructure; a highly selective enrollment profile, and a prestigious reputation.

Her key accomplishments include:

  • Successfully closed the largest Campaign in the College’s history;
  • Developed and currently executing the Centennial Plan, a blueprint for the College’s strategic future and aspirations for institutional progress in advance of the upcoming 100th anniversary;
  • Established a $10 million endowed scholarship initiative, which has met and surpassed its goal with $10.5 million raised to date. The initiative tripled the number of loan-free financial aid packages to more than 100 during President Tiedens’ tenure; the College now provides no-loan financial aid to approximately 10% of Scripps student body, up from 1% just three years ago;
  • Established and/or completed seven endowed faculty chair funds;
  • Envisioned and initiated a comprehensive initiative to expand science education, including construction of a 65,000 sq. ft. cutting-edge teaching and research facility;
  • Launched an innovative computer and data science education program, infusing the principles of liberal arts and cutting-edge pedagogy to deliver a women-centric and interdisciplinary curriculum;
  • Increased the College’s efforts to eradicate structural inequality and build a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community by launching a multifaceted anti-racism initiative;
  • Elevated the College’s reputational strength with exponential increases in national media coverage and a secure position among the top-ranked women’s and liberal arts colleges nationally;
  • Record increases in applications and enrollment;
  • Strong stewardship and leadership of the institution’s pandemic response; and
  • Due to its financial and academic strength, the College has continued to deliver Scripps’ educational mission, maintain community, and minimize operational disruption despite the challenges of the pandemic.
