Biography


Emily Thebaut, DMA, is a performing mezzo-soprano and voice teacher based in Los Angeles. Emily is currently on faculty teaching studio voice and pedagogy at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at Cal State Long Beach, Scripps College and Loyola Marymount University. Emily is also the Executive Director of Los Angeles based non-profit, The Opera Buffs. Emily received her doctoral degree in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, where she was the head teaching assistant and President of the student chapter of the National Association of Teacher’s of Singing (SNATS). Emily has been on the board of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing for the past 3 years and held the position of Collegiate Chair. Emily is also a teaching artist with the Los Angeles Opera Connects program.

Passionate about working with living composers and singing contemporary works, Emily's most recent performance engagements have included the role of Bethel in Tony Solitro’s She’s Fabulous, premiering the role of Olivia in new opera, Turbulent Mirror by Celka Ojakangas and recording Mark Weiser’s new opera, Galaxies. Recently, Emily has produced immersive virtual opera productions including Pepito, by Nicolas Lell Benavides, an animated opera short, as well as a virtual production of Argento’s “Mrs. Manners on Music,” and Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appetit. Emily completed her Master of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her undergraduate degree from Oberlin Conservatory. Emily has also studied with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, Oberlin in Italy and Opera Festival du Roma.
