- Scripps College Among U.S. Colleges Praised for Combating Sexual Assault
The Washington Post‘s Nick Anderson interviewed Charlotte Johnson, Scripps’ dean of students, regarding the College’s initiatives to combat sexual assault on campus. The June 12, 2015, article notes innovative steps taken by several college campuses in the U.S. to prevent sexual violence and to help those who report it.
- Scripps College Ranked One of the Best in the Nation for Financial Aid
ABC Online reported Scripps’ ranking as one of the best in the nation for financial aid following the August 2105 release of The Princeton Review‘s college rankings. Scripps was ranked #16 for best financial aid and, among the publisher’s 2016 “Best 380 Colleges,” placed among the top 10 colleges and universities nationwide on five lists, including students’ favorites for: “best quality of life” (#5), “most beautiful campus” (#6), “most liberal students” (#7), “best classroom experience” (#9), and “best college dorms” (#10).

As students prepared to return to school in August, ABC News and The Chicago Tribune picked up a story filed by Associated Press reporter Sally Ho that highlights what small colleges like Scripps are doing to accommodate the housing needs of growing numbers of first year students.

Quartz magazine, an arm of The Atlantic that features content specifically for reading on tablet and mobile devices, featured professor of philosophy Rivka Weinberg’s new book, The Risk of A Lifetime: How, When, and Why Procreation May Be Permissible, in late November. Published by Oxford University Press, the book explores the ethical issues involved in having children.
- Scripps Among Top 50 Best Values in Liberal Arts Colleges
Kiplinger’s 2016 Best Value Colleges list featured Scripps in December 2015 as #34 among the top 100 best values in liberal arts colleges. Kiplinger rankings highlight public schools, private universities, and private liberal arts colleges that combine outstanding academics with affordable cost, naming the top-100 best values in each category and providing information for college-bound students to make comparisons between schools.
- Professor Stacey Wood Makes Discoveries About the Risks of Elder Financial Abuse
Psychology professor Stacey Wood’s research, aided by 200 Scripps undergraduate research interviewers, reveals a strong link between numeracy, or comfort with numbers, and risk of elder financial abuse, as reported in mid-December by American Public Media (Marketplace online), the San Francisco Chronicle, Seattle Post Intelligencer, and other national and regional media outlets.
