Zetterberg Named Director of Malott Commons

Suzanne Zetterberg, director of development at Pitzer College, has accepted Scripps College’s offer, effective August 30, to become director of the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Commons, due to open in early 2000 on the Scripps campus.

In announcing the appointment, President Nancy Y. Bekavac said, “Suzanne brings to this position a wealth of professional experience and knowledge of both student and community interests and needs. She is a dynamic, creative thinker, who will help shape the future of the Commons. We welcome her with enthusiasm.”

The Malott Commons will serve as the center for community life at Scripps, and will house a formal dining room, four distinct student dining rooms, space for programs, offices, and activities, and the student-run coffee house, The Motley. As director of the Malott Commons, Zetterberg will initiate and coordinate a range of educational offerings and programs, including speakers’ forums, student activities, and special events.

Before joining Pitzer’s development office, Zetterberg served as director of alumni programs at Pitzer from 1987 to 1989; in this position, she planned and coordinated all special events for college advancement and developed strategies for alumni programs. Previously, as founder and CEO of Rainbow Zoo Dezigns, Inc., from 1978 to 1987, she built a cottage design business into a successful manufacturing enterprise with 30 employees. Zetterberg has a B.A. in art and art history from Pitzer College and a master’s in art from the Claremont Graduate University.

An active member of the community, Zetterberg currently serves as chair of the Claremont Architectural Commission and is a volunteer for Claremont Heritage.
