Scripps Student Named Fulbright Scholar

Jessica Isaacs ’06, a public policy and analysis major at Scripps College, has received a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to spend 2007 in Taiwan at the National Taiwan University in Taipei, studying the country’s energy policy. She plans to write a publishable academic article that outlines Taiwan’s current policies and suggests energy-efficient policies that would help Taiwan sustain its economic growth while serving as an energy policy model for East Asia.

Established by the U.S. Congress in 1946 to “enable the government of the United States to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries,” the Fulbright Student Program is now the largest U.S. exchange program. It offers opportunities for students and young professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. The U.S. Student Program currently awards approximately 1,200 grants annually in all fields of study, and operates in more than 140 countries worldwide.
