Student Artists Present Senior Art Exhibition

  • News Releases

Fourteen student artists will present their work in a wide range of mediums—computer art, video, ceramics, sculpture, photography, print making, and performance art—at the 1999 Scripps/Claremont McKenna Senior Art Majors Exhibition from April 30 through May 16 at the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery, on the Scripps campus. Opening reception for the exhibition is Friday, April 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. Regular hours for the gallery are 1 to 5 p.m., Wed-Sunday.

According to Susan Rankaitis, Fletcher Jones Professor in Art and professor of the Scripps Senior Art Seminars, "The artists selected have nothing in common but talent, intelligence and a determination to reflect some of the more provocative questions of our time: ‘Where must private and public intersect?’ ‘What is authentic?’ ‘Is the sensual always sexual?’ The range of work in this exhibition is compelling."

Artists selected to present their work include, from Scripps, Mitra Abbaspour ’99, Gina Maggiore Brownstein ’99, Carina Cha ’99, Erin Brooke Harris ’99, Cindy James Chinami Inoue ’99, Bonnie Lee ’99, Kirsen Rostad ’99, Georgina C. Seabrook ’99, Celeste Christine Smith ’99, Rulan Tova Weinberg ’99, Julia Wren ’99, and Columba Aurora Gutierrez Zamora ’99; from Claremont McKenna College, Emily Brown ’99 and Michelle Goncalves ’99.
