Spain’s Consul General to Give State of European Union Address at Scripps College

José Luis Dicenta Ballester, Consul General of Spain, will deliver the eighth State of the European Union Address on behalf of the Spanish Presidency of the European Commission on Tuesday, February 19, at 4:15 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Commons on the Scripps College campus. He will speak on “Spain and the European Union: The Objectives of the Spanish Presidency for the European Union.” This program is free and open to the public.

Mr. Dicenta Ballester has formerly served as Spain’s ambassador to Peru, the Czech Republic, Colombia, and Mexico. From 1993-1996, he held the position of Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Iberoamerica. Immediately prior to coming to Los Angeles in August 2001, he served as Consul General of Spain in Zurich, Switzerland. Mr. Dicenta Ballester is a graduate of the University of Madrid, Spain, and the Spanish Diplomatic School.

The European Union Center of California, housed on the Scripps College campus, sponsors Consul General Dicenta Ballester’s appearance. Part of a network of EU Centers nationwide, the EU Center of California seeks to promote education, scholarly research, and public understanding of European integration and its consequences.
