Sexual Violence in Times of War

Inger Skjelsbaek, lecturer and research associate with the International Peace Research Institute of Oslo (PRIO), will speak on “War-time Sexual Violence from Post-War Perspectives: A Case Study of Bosnia-Herzegovina” on Thursday, March 13, at 12:15 p.m. in the Hampton Room of the Elizabeth Hubert Malott Commons on the Scripps College campus. This talk, part of the European Union Center of California Spring 2003 Lecture Series, is free and open to the public.

Since 1996, Inger Skjelsbaek has worked with the International Peace Research Institute of Oslo on a variety of projects focusing on gender and sexual violence specifically as it relates to and is played out in Slavic countries at war. Author of several articles and papers on this subject, Skjelsbaek’s work appears in such prestigious journals as Journal of International Peacekeeping and European Journal of International Relations. Skjelsbaek is also the author and co-editor of Gender, Peace and Conflict, published in January 2001. Her status as a leading expert has led to her frequent participation in a number of conferences in the United States, Slovenia, and Norway, among others.

The recipient of numerous grants and scholarships to pursue her field of study, Skjelsbaek is currently at UC Berkley as a Fulbright Research Associate.
