“Scripps Dances” is one of the highlights of the dance department’s spring calendar, providing an opportunity for students, faculty, and guest artists to debut original choreography and performance work. This year’s concert highlights the work of six graduating seniors and reflects a variety of dance forms including modern, jazz, ballet, and improvisation.

Meg Foley’s (SC’04), Branching, creates a unique dance environment using varying qualities of movement; Courtney Crocker’s (SC’04), Echo, is a lyrical modern quartet movement performed to the music of Sigor Rós; Dena Bodzin’s (HMC’04), Hurt Me, is a movement study of masochism; while Saph Hall’s (SC’04) trio, Almost There, explores dependent relationships through original movement variations; Caroline Johnson (SC’04) merges hip hop and modern dance sensibilities in, Through the Green Light; Nicole Clarke’s (SC’04) Fumbling Actualizations, explores a choreographer’s experiences with Los Angeles’ ecstatic dance community. Ms. Clarke’s work was recently selected for the Gala Performance of the American College Dance Festival, Central Region. Additional solos performed by Courtney Crocker and Meg Foley plus Molly Rogers’ (SC’05) contemporary ballet Flight complete the program.
