Adding her own unique political thinking and discourse to the California recall election, Huffington gained widespread notoriety in her bid for Governor. Huffington is currently working on her tenth book, Fanatics & Fools, to be published in spring 2004.

She is the author of eight other books, including The Female Woman, which explores the changing roles of women. She also wrote After Reason, a book on political leadership; Maria Callas: The Women Behind the Legend; Gods of Greece, which celebrates the power of myths; Picasso: Creator and Destroyer; The Fourth Instinct, on the longing for meaning in a secular world; and How to Overthrow the Government, on the corruption of our political system.

Huffington has been a guest on such media as The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, Larry King Live, Oprah, Nightline, Inside Politics, Charlie Rose, Crossfire, Hardball, Good Morning America, Today Show, and the McLaughlin Group. She serves on several boards that promote community solutions to social problems, including Points of Light Foundation, and A Place Called Home. In addition, she serves on the board of trustees for the Archer School for Girls, the advisory board of the Council on American Politics at George Washington University, and on the board of the Reform Institute, which works on campaign and election reform issues.

Huffington, originally from Greece, earned her M.A. in economics at Cambridge University, and at 21 she became president of the famed debating society, the Cambridge Union.

The Alexa Fullerton Hampton Series is made possible through the generous bequest of Alexa Fullerton Hampton, Scripps class of 1942.
