Loretta Sanchez ‘Blazes’ Into Scripps

Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, representative of the 47th Congressional District in Southern California, will speak on Monday, April 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Scripps College as part of the Alexa Fullerton Hampton Speaker Series, “Trailblazers.” The Lecture will take place in the Hampton Room, Malott Commons and is free and open to the public. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez has represented the 47th District of Congress, encompassing the Anaheim, Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Fullerton areas of Orange County, since 1996. She currently serves as the third-ranking Democrat of the Select Committee for Homeland Security, which oversees the new Department of Homeland Security to assure it is working effectively and quickly. Sanchez is also the ranking woman of the House Armed Services Committee.

Sanchez has focused much of her time on issues such as education, public safety and crime reduction, economic development, and protection for senior citizens. During her tenure, she has successfully worked on bi-partisan projects, and has secured more than $300 million in federal tax dollars to support her district.

Prior to her work in Congress, Sanchez served as financial manager at the Orange County Transportation Authority. She was also assistant vice president at Fieldman Rollap and Associates, a financial advisory firm, and an associate at Booz, Allen, and Hamilton. Sanchez received her B.A. in economics from Chapman University, and her M.B.A. from American University in Washington, D.C.
