Dr. Terri Givens, author and University of Washington Political Science faculty, will speak on “Xenophobia, Party Politics, and Immigration Policy in the European Union,” on Monday, November 4, at 12:15 p.m. in the McConnell Living Room on the Pitzer College campus. This talk, part of the European Union Center of California Fall 2002 Luncheon Lecture series, is free and open to the public, and a buffet luncheon is available for purchase prior to the lecture in McConnell Dining Hall.
Dr. Givens specializes in comparative politics in Western Europe with an emphasis on political parties, immigration policy, and political movements of the extreme right. Her recent research has focused on radical right parties and the effect of electoral institutions on party strategy. She is a frequent lecturer and conference participant, and has contributed a chapter to the recently published Shadows over Europe: The Development and Impact of the Extreme Right in Western Europe. Givens is currently working on several projects for publication later this year.
The recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, Givens received her doctoral and master’s degrees in political science with an emphasis in comparative politics and methodology from University of California, Los Angeles, and her bachelor’s in international relations from Stanford University. She currently teaches courses on comparative politics, political parties, and Western European government at the University of Washington.
