Christina McPhee ’76 Shares Her Art With Students, Community

Detail from “Prism Prison (So Natural I Forget to Look),” completed in 2016.

Scripps alumna Christina McPhee ’76, media artist and painter, received an enthusiastic response from students, faculty, and the community of Norwalk, Calif., for her solo show at Cerritos College Art Gallery. Her exhibition ran from Sept. 8 to Nov. 12 and included works from her Double Blind Studies and Second Sight series of drawings and abstract ink-over-oil paintings. McPhee’s work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, Rhizome’s Artbase at the New Museum, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, and Thresholds New Media Collection in Scotland, and she has also mounted solo exhibitions at the American University Museum, Washington, D.C., and Bildmuseet, Umea, Sweden. McPhee served as the Lois Langland Alumna-in-Residence at Scripps College in 2000. You can read a review of the exhibition by UCLA art historian Robert Summers in the recent issue of Artillery magazine.
