National Expert on Criminal Jurisdiction and Native Americans Lectures at Scripps College

Guadalupe Gutierrez, deputy prosecutor for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in southern Arizona, lectures on “Evolving States of Criminal Jurisdiction in Indian Country” at noon on April 11 in Scripps College’s Hampton Room, Malott Commons, 345 E. 9th St. The event is free and open to the public.

Gutierrez will lead a discussion with the audience following her lecture. She has a doctorate degree from the University of Michigan in clinical psychology, as well as a law degree from the University of Arizona. As an attorney, Gutierrez has focused on constitutional law, immigration and Indian law.

The Humanities Institute organized a series of spring lectures and film screenings, “Continuing Invasion: Resistance, Resilience, and Re-invention Among North American Indigenous Peoples.” The speakers challenge the distorted depictions of Native peoples in mainstream and scholarly written works.
