Family Weekend Faculty Recital

On Sunday, February 15, 2009, Professor Hao Huang will give a faculty recital for the Scripps College Family Weekend. The recital, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Scripps College’s Garrison Theater.

Huang will perform four defining pieces from four musical masters: Piano Sonata in A Major, Opus 101 by Beethoven, generally recognized as his definitive arrival point into a phase that combined mastery of form and tonality; Polonaise-Fantaisie in A-Flat by Chopin, the piece considered to be a chief masterpiece of his final creative period; L’Isle Joyeuse by Debussy, which presents Antoine Watteau’s L’Embarquement pour Cythere in a musical picture; and the Transcendental Etude No. 4 in D Minor by Liszt, one of the most difficult of the twelve etudes musically and technically.

One of Scripps’s most popular events, Family Weekend brings hundreds of families to the campus each year. The exciting weekend gives parents and families a chance to experience Scripps College; seeing all that the College has to offer through attending classes, lectures, performances by talented students of members of the Scripps faculty, and interacting with the administration.
