Critically-Acclaimed Lovell Sisters perform at Scripps College

The Lovell Sisters, an acoustic music trio steeped in bluegrass and classical elements, will perform on Scripps College’s Bowling Green, Friday, September 25, 5:30-7:00 p.m., as part of the popular Levitt on the Lawn Concert Series. The concert is free and open to the public.

Sisters Jessica, Megan, and Rebecca began their musical career at a young age, performing in local youth symphonies and singing in church choirs. A chance visit to an open-mic bluegrass show in Tennessee sparked their interest in the instrumentation and improvisation of bluegrass music; two years later, the group won the Prairie Home National Teen Talent Competition of 2005.

The Lovell Sisters are currently touring in support of their latest album, “Time to Grow,” which includes two award-winning songs; the title track, “Time To Grow,” is a finalist in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition, and “Distance,” a Grand Prize Winner in the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Levitt on the Lawn at Scripps is an offshoot of the Levitt Pavilion for the Performing Arts in Pasadena and MacArthur Park in downtown Los Angeles. Scripps College alumna Elizabeth Levitt Hirsch ’74 sponsors the Scripps concert series to give back to the Scripps community and increase awareness of the summer concerts at the Levitt Pavilions.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic supper, or may purchase dinner for $8. Scripps students dine for free with meal card. For more information, contact the Malott Commons office at (909) 607-9372.
