The Scripps College department of music presents an afternoon concert of contemporary Italian music on Sunday, April 10, at 3:00 p.m. in Balch Auditorium on 10th and Columbia on the Scripps College campus. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Joint Music Department of The Claremont Colleges at (909) 621-8280 or (909) 607-3267.

The concert will feature works by composer Roberto Andreoni performed by Claremont College’s students Naomi Lord, Kristin Hunt, Emily Crank, Rose Lachman, Nora Martin, Hannah Lachman, Steven Lee, Heather Hesitland, and graduate student Yi-Juin Duan, as well as faculty members Rachel Vetter Huang, Hao Huang, Gayle Blankenburg, and Jennifer Goltz. Andreoni will introduce each piece.

Andreoni is the O’Brien visiting professor of music at Scripps. He has collaborated with both il Divertimento Ensemble and il Centro Studi Armando Gentilucci “AGON” Acustica Informatica Musica. His compositions have been performed in Carnegie Hall, la Scala di Milano, la Biennale di Venezia, Festivale Settembre Musica de Turin, and his Opera Sì was successfully staged in Bergamo, Italy. He served as director of the Accademia Internazionale della Musica de Milano (formerly Civica Scuola di Musica ), the largest Italian private school of music, from 2002 to 2004.

Andreoni earned his diploma in composition in Milan at the Conservatorio G.Verdi and received his M.A. and Ph.D. in music at the University of California, Berkeley. He has served as chairman of the Scuola Civica di Musica di Assago and head of the Twentieth Century Harmony courses at Milan’s Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. In 1997 he became director of the Institute for the International Education of Students Program in Milan, with the mission to promote study abroad opportunities and cultural links for American students in Italy.
