Kofi Asare Opoku, formerly of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana and retired professor of religious studies at Lafayette College, will speak about African perspectives on peace, April 14 in the Hampton Room, Malott Commons, Scripps College. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Opoku’s scholarship focuses on African community life, education, symbols and art, proverbs, religion, and legal traditions that provide knowledge about peace in order to bring insight about achieving world peace.
This lecture is made possible by the Kathleen O’Brien Wicker Endowment, established at Scripps College by the trustees, former students, friends, and admirers of Kathleen Wicker, professor emerita of religious studies.
Once a year, the endowment brings a distinguished scholar in religious studies to campus to interact with Scripps students and offer a lecture to the broader Claremont Colleges community. As the endowment grows, the event may evolve into a multi-faceted conference that brings to campus a number of scholars from around the globe.
