In the Media: “Be Slower, Do Less,” Michelle Decker Tells the Chronicle of Higher Education

Assistant Professor of English Michelle Decker spoke to the Chronicle of Higher Education about the analog teaching methods she’s using during this online semester. Guided by the motto “be slower, do less,” she’s helping students take a break from their screens with assignments that involve building connections with their immediate community and taking walks without their phones. Decker called these methods a “pared-down, more intensive, slow-moving approach to learning,” adding that students have “the space to breathe, and think, and maybe even enjoy what they’re doing.”
