Yuval AvnurProfessor of Philosophy Yuval Avnur was invited to speak on the Australian National Radio’s Religion and Ethics Report show after publishing a study with two 5C colleagues investigating allegations of bias in universities.
In their research, Avnur and Claremont McKenna College professors Jon Shields and Stephanie Muravchik, found that most institutions do not include texts and their criticisms in their syllabi. Avnur fears that students will come away from an institution with a false impression of scholarly consensus on a given issue, when there is not.
“The consequence is that the student then goes on into society thinking that anyone who disagrees on this point is just an uneducated ignoramus and there is no point in engaging in dialogue about it,” Avnur explains.
