Assistant Professor of Media Studies Vincent Roca was profiled by Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student newspaper. Roca received a master of fine arts from UCLA’s design media arts department and released his thesis project, Slot Waste in 2024.
Roca’s work was recognized at the Independent Games Festival Awards, the largest celebration of independent talent and game development.
Slot Waste is a experimental video game installation that explores “a conceptual relationship between the production of desire in video games and industrial production through machines, Slot Waste seeks to make apparent the desiring-machines that structure neoliberal capitalist social production,” according to Roca’s website.
