Associate professor of Chicanx- Latinax Studies Martha Gonzalez has been included among other local community leaders as one of the inspirational figures behind a new collection of plays produced by a local theatre residency program. Seeds of Resistance, a collection of social justice plays, written and performed by high schoolers, will premiere in February.
Produced by About…Production, the organization works with leading Los Angeles-based musicians, writers, directors, designers, and performers to create original works about LA history and social justice.
Students in the residency interviewed local social justice leaders, including Gonzalez, and developed the piece inspired by their stories and advocacy.
The plays will be performed on February 13, 2026 at the Roosevelt High School Performing Arts Center in Boyle Heights, Gonzalez’ hometown. Admission is free and advance registration is recommended.
