
The work of Scripps photography Professor of Art Ken Gonzales-Day is part of the Cheech Marin Center’s new exhibit Chicano Camera Culture: A Photographic History, 1966-2026. The exhibit is a major survey on the evolution of Chicana/o/x image making, moving through the civil rights era artworks, to contemporary photography and multi-media installation work. It brings together 150 works from over 50 artist, many of whom are local to the Inland Empire, to highlight the camera’s role as both a political tool and a means of cultural preservation. Featured artists created works that comment on how big industry is changing the cultures and communities of small Inland Empire towns.
Chicano Camera Culture will remain on display through September 6th, 2026. Additionally, a companion exhibition is open at the Riverside Art Museum through July 5th, 2026.
