Rita Roberts, Nathaniel Wright Stephenson Chair in History and Biography and professor of history and Africana studies, appeared on CSPAN to discuss her book I Can’t Wait to Call You My Wife. The book is a compilation of letters sent between African Americans during the Civil War. It was previously included in Oprah Daily‘s list of best books to give as holiday gifts for 2022.
“This book challenges the notion that African Americans had a monolithic experience,” Roberts said. “It’s important that we know that, because so many Americans have a very slight understanding of the African American experience.”
