Alison Saar ’78, whose upcoming exhibitions will take place in Claremont and Pasadena when pandemic guidelines allow, discussed her work, creative process, and recent benefit print for Black Lives Matter with the New York Times. “I’ve always wanted my work not to just be angry but point toward some resolution or express some optimism,” she said, acknowledging that it’s been more difficult to create positive messages in recent years. She added: “A lot of my life has been a balancing act between anger and a kind of serenity, and that’s also reflected in my process.”
