On Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29, the College hosted its first annual Scripps-in-Residence, which brought an accomplished and influential panel of four Scripps College alumnae and one parent to campus to share their professional advice and insights. The program began with rousing discussion on Wednesday evening, which drew a capacity crowd to Balch Auditorium.
Scripps-in-Residence provides students with the opportunity to connect with alumnae and parents who have pursued careers they are interested in, as well as to hear stories from the women about successfully navigating the professional world after graduation. Activities for this inaugural program included a question-and-answer panel, lunchtime conversation tables, and fireside chats in the residence halls, during which the women gave advice about their paths to success in their specific fields.
Alumnae included Lucinda Bowen Smith ’88, global business executive and women’s network advocate; Stacia Deutsch ’90, New York Times bestselling children’s book author; Valerie Haselton ’92, founder and co-president of Sirens Media, a television production company; and Tiombe Sewell Wallace ’95, a feminist therapist and diversity and oppression educator and activist. Rounding out the forum was parent Christine Hickman P’15, retired law professor and community volunteer.
